EXPRESS YOURSELF
"Worship the Lord with gladness; come before Him with joyful songs." -Psalm 100:2

When David said to make a joyful noise to the Lord, he was declaring that worship should be expressive to the Lord. Audibly voicing our strong emotions is normal—the mouth tries to express the praises of the heart. Many of us, however, have been conditioned to be subdued and reserved when it comes to worshiping God.
In ancient times, God's people expressed their worship and praise to Him in several ways:
•With an upright heart (Psalm 32:11). Worship is a heart matter, not an external ritual. When we worship God, it should be from a heart that is right with Him.
•With joyful singing (Psalm 95:1-2). Because Israel had witnessed God's awesome deeds, they responded with passionate singing. Their singing was alive because their God was alive.
•With clapping (Psalm 47:1). Contrary to some conservative opinion, clapping is a biblical method for praising and worshiping our God.
•By bowing down before Him (Psalm 66:4). Bowing in worship is a sign of humility before God.
•Through reverent service (Psalm 2:11). They were called to cease going through the motions of religious duty. Serving the Lord should not be burdensome; it should be a real joy to serve a God who loves us and forgives us completely.
•With our whole heart—all our mind, emotions, body, and will (Psalm 100). There's no need to incarcerate our praise in the prison of reservation.
We're called to be expressive in our worship. This inward experience and outward expression of our worship is not a call to emotionalism, but a call to taste God and to be transformed by His awesome presence. —Marvin Williams

bottom line: Worship is to be expressed. =)

Feeling Intimidated?

"For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love, and of self-discipline." -2nd Timothy 1:7

People respond in different ways when they're intimidated. Some look for easy escape—thinking that running away is the best option. Others employ the strategy of counterattack. Their best defense is offense. And others flare up with an outburst of negative emotions. They use strong words and body language to display their displeasure. So, which is the best response to pressure—running, fighting, or reacting?
Timothy was under intense intimidation as a young pastor of a church. People were opposing his ministry. It must have been difficult for him to respond in the right way to those individuals. In Paul's letter to Timothy, he told him how to utilize the God-given "spirit of power, of love, and of self-discipline" (2 Timothy 1:7).
First, Timothy did not have to run, because God had given him "a spirit of power." There was no situation in which God had put him that He hadn't also given him the ability to persevere. No matter how difficult the problems and people were, there was always a way of facing them with God's perspective. Moving away from a difficulty for a while may be useful, but it ought to be revisited and resolved.
Second, Timothy didn't need to fight, because God had given him "a spirit of love." There is often this tendency to fight and hurt the person who first hurts us. Timothy, however, understood God's love, and sought the good of others. It would be difficult, but not impossible.
Last, Timothy didn't have to react negatively, because God had given him "a spirit of self-discipline." A disciplined life and a sound mind will keep one from sudden ungodly outbursts of emotion. Instead, a person who possesses them will exhibit good judgment—even under extreme pressure.
Let's learn to exhibit courage, express love, and exercise good judgment when we are intimidated—that's God's way to handle it. —Lim Chien Chong

bottom line: Intimidation shows the cracks in our character.

-such a good devo, eh? =D

Tribute to 4 slain RCMPs

That was an emotional service to remember the four slain RCMP officers who were killed on March 3, 2005. Alot of meaningful messages were spoken by the Governor General Adrienne Clarkson, Prime Minister Paul Martin, Alberta Premier Ralph Klein, RCMP Commissioners, Reverends, and the people who spoke the eulogies. It kinda made me appreciate the fact that I live in a country that stresses on the safety of the citizens. Also made me think of the importance of police and RCMP. Gotta say thank you to them four.
Adrienne Clarkson: "Honour is not determined by what you have received, but by how much you have given."
Rest In Peace: Anthony Gordon, Lionide Johnston, Brock Myrol, Peter Schiemann
